Cavity exciton polaritons in two-dimensional semiconductors from first principles

Two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting microcavity, where exciton-polaritons can be formed, constitues a promising setup for exploring and manipulating various regimes of light-matter interaction. Here, the coupling between 2D excitons metallic cavity photons is studied by using first-principles propagator technique. The strength exciton-photon characterised its Rabi splitting to two exciton-polaritons, which tuned thickness. Maximum 128 meV achieved in phosporene cavity, while remarkable value about 440 predicted monolayer hBN device. obtained splittings WS$_2$ microcavity are excellent agreement with recent experiments. Present methodology aid predicting proposing potential setups trapping robust exciton-polariton condensates.
